League title retention
Flipeadóirí Longfoirt Junior team played their first outing to retain the league title of the 2015 season on Sunday last with a game against Drumlish. After the rain of Saturday night our pitch was in fine condition, confirming that the drainage job done last year is working well. Our combination of youth and experience proved too strong for Drumlish and the game finished on a score line of 3-13 to 1-4 in our favour. Thanks to the minor lads who turned up for the game after having a tough game of their own shortly beforehand. The team led by Díarmuid McRory played well throughout the first half in particular, where a good lead was established. Scores from Ross Flaherty, Andrew Kelly and Rúairí Clarke (including a spectacular 50) all helped to establish the lead. The midfield of Andrew Lyons and Brian Rooney were generally winning possession and the backline led by McRory and John McKeon held well. This is a great start for the team and presents players with game time which is a means of developing football throughout the club. It is refreshing to see players committing to this team in such numbers. Our next outing in this grade is fixed for Sunday May 3rd in Ardagh.
