Finding best 15
Work in progress is still taking place in the ACL Division 1 league. Slashers met Carrickedmond last Weds night in a home game in perfect conditions. Both teams opened well in a nip and tuck encounter where scores were at a premium. Slashers are still trying to discover the best 15 and young players are still getting their chance to "step up". The league is the place to blood new talent and names like Shane Rodgers, Andrew Kelly and Sean and Ruairí Clarke are appearing more often on team sheets.
Peter Brady manned the full back position and Barry Gilleran hovered in front of midfield. Niall Mullligan toiled hard but finding a clear path through Carrick defence was not easy. Most Slashers scores came from Colin Smith frees except with Niall Mulligan and Andrew Dalton also keeping the board ticking over. In the end Slashers ran out on the wrong side of the score- board by 3 points with 14 players on the pitch. The year is young and these games will allow Slashers time to "blood" the likes of Adrian Duffy and some returning seniors to find the strongest 15. In the mean time plenty of solid training sessions and lots of football will see the team find its level as the ground hardens up.
Team: Colin Farrell, Shane Rodgers Peter Brady, Darren Flaherty, Peter Foy, Dermot Brady, Sean Clarke, Andrew Dalton, Barry Gilleran, Ruairí Clarke, Niall Mulligan, Brian farrell, Niall Kelly, Colin Smith, Trevor Clendenning.
Best wishes to Barry Gilleran, Peter Foy and Dermot Brady on duty for county this week.
