Ladies Football Club Notes – 29th June 2014
Our U14 squad made the trip to Connaught to the National Feile finals last weekend. The were in a group with St. Bridgets & Shamrock Gaels. In the first game they had a convincing 5-09 to 0-01 win over St. Bridgets but in the second game narrowly lost to Shamrock Gaels on as 2-01 to 2-05 scoreline. As it transpired, there ended up a 3 way playoff after the group games and the girls made no mistake in getting out of the group by holding the opposition to no score in both playoff games beating Shamrock Gaels by 5-03 to 0-0 and St. Bridgets by 1-03 to 0-0. This pitted them against New York in the knockout stages but unfortunately they came up against a strong New York side and they bowed out of the competition at this stage. It was a great performance by all and we hope all players, mentors and parents enjoyed the experience.
Our U16 team played Mullineachta in the semi final of the championship on Thursday evening last but unfortunately lost out in the end. We got off to a terrible start conceding 2-1 in the first 3 minutes and left ourselves with a mountain to climb. The girls fought back well and were back in contention before a 3rd goal midway through the second half put paid to our hopes. A final scoreline of 2-05 to 3-08 put Mullineachta through to the final and we wish them all the best in it.
Junior championship coming up shortly so training continues at usual times.
