Minor Ladies Win Four In A Row
Our Minor girls squad created history with a four in a row championship final win on Sunday 6th November against old rivals Ballymahon/Forgney. Playing with the wind in the first half, the girls settled down well and a few early points from Jessica Barry, Cara Shannon and Aishling Smith put us in the driving seat.Half way through the first half a speculative shot from Cara Shannon hit both posts before going in to give us the first goal of the game. However, Ballymahon/Forgney went down the field and scored a goal of their own a few minutes later to keep them in the game. A few more frees from Jessica Barry left us with a 1-08 to 1-01 lead at half time. The girls knew the second half was going to be a very tough affair but went out very determined to take the game to the opposition despite playing against the wind. This they did with an early Grace Shannon goal putting us on the front foot and the girls kept the pressure on with the defense putting in a great effort to repel all attacks. Emily Reilly made two great saves and some fabuluous tackling kept the opposition chances to a minimum. Two very well taken Jessica Barry goals after good creative football sealed a very comprehensive victory by 4-12 to 1-03. Every one of the twenty players in the squad have contributed throughout the title run and all deserve great credit for the football they have played which shows the great training throughout the year by Seanie Meenaghan paid off. Well done to all for finishing off a very successful year.
