FOUNDATION AND HISTORY:

Longford Slashers Ladies GFA was founded in the early eighties, winning the Senior Championship and Senior League titles in 1983. After a number of years in existence it subsequently went into hibernation but was reformed at underage in 2008 and Senior level in 2012. Since our reformation we have enjoyed Championship success at U12, U14 (5), U16 (3), Minor (6-in-a-row) and at Senior Level (6 successive county titles in a row) and also Leinster and All-Ireland success. Following the reformation of our underage club in 2008, began the success story that is today. Over the years our U12's, U14's, U16's and Minor's enjoyed success in both Championship and Feile. Our U12's were Championship winners in 2010,2013 and 2014. Our U14's were Championship winners from 2010-2013 and in 2015, they also enjoyed success in 2010,2011,2013 and 2014 winning the Feile. Our U16's were Championship winners in 2013,2014 and 2016. Our Minor's also brought great success to our underage club as they were crowned Championship winners 6 years in a row from 2013-2018. Our Senior Ladies team was reformed in 2012. They went on to win the Junior Championship in 2017 after reaching the final 4 times in 5 years, finally being successful on the 4th attempt. In 2018 they followed on from their Junior Championship success to land the Intermediate title at the first time of asking. They completed their rise back to the top when they won the Senior Championship title in 2019 (for the first time in 36 years) completing the rise from Junior to Senior as winners in just 3 years. Our Ladies followed the 2019 win up with 3 more Championship titles in 2020, 2021 and 2022 to complete the 4-in-a-row in Senior which made it a grand total of 6 County titles in a row. Following the 2021 Senior Championship success our Ladies made a strong appearance in Leinster where they reached the Intermediate Championship Final only to be denied by St: Sylvester's (Dublin). Despite suffering heartache in Leinster our Ladies came back stronger than ever in the 2022 season by clinching 4-in-a-row Senior titles in Longford and once again made a strong appearance in Leinster by reaching a second Intermediate Final in a row, this time going one step further as they got the better of Skryne (Meath). Following on from the success of Leinster our Ladies progressed to the All-Ireland campaign. After defeating Charlestown (Mayo) in the semi-final our Ladies booked their spot in the 2022 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship Final that was played in Croke Park where they were crowned Champions after overcoming Mullinahone (Tipperary). Our Ladies made history on December 10th 2022 by becoming the first Senior club from Longford to win an All-Ireland title. U10: Born on or after 1st January 2013. Training starts in March/April. New members always welcome. U12: Born on or after 1st January 2011. Training starts in March/April. New members always welcome. U14: Born on or after 1st January 2009. Training starts in March/April. New members always welcome. U16: Born on or after 1st January 2007. Training starts in March/April. New members always welcome. Minor: Born on or after 1st January 2005. The Minor competition doesn't start until early September but most of the players are already training with the U16's & Senior's over the summer. New members always welcome. Senior: All ages from Minor up. Training starts in February. County board matches take place on Sundays. New members always welcome.
