Underage Football Club Notes – 28th July 2014
UNDER 12s
On Monday evening last our u12's had an excellent win in Allen Park over a very good Clonguish side in the first round of the Longford League. A battling performance saw Slashers triumph on a scoreline of 6-12 to 0-12. Ultimately our ability to create and score goals was the difference between the sides but it took some time for the team to settle into the game. Indeed Slashers trailed by 5 points to 1 after almost 15 minutes of play and were struggling to convert any of the chances that they created in that opening period. A Dean Wykes goal (after an excellent pass from Liam Sloane) steadied the ship and a Ronan Sheahan point levelled matters. A Liam Sloane goal and points from Dean Coughlan and Mairtín Kenny left 5 points between the sides at half time. The second half saw a much improved performance and 4 more goals (Liam Sloane, Micheál Mulcahy, Dean Coughlan and Miroslav Cureja), together with 8 more points, including excellent scores from Callum O'Leary, John Murray and Jack Tyrell saw Slashers run out comfortable winners in the end. A very impressive performance from the forwards was matched by a really dominant defensive performance. Stephen O'Brien pulled off 3 outstanding saves in a "man of the match" performance. In front of him Danny Ogboko and Ben Lynn were very solid. Half backs Donal Sheahan (having his best performance of the year), Sean Morgan and Cian McGuinness had excellent games. Midfielders Mairtín Kenny and Dean Coughlan worked tirelessly throughout. The team now have a break until August 21stbut its important that there are good turnouts at training for the next few weeks.
