Our Senior men have a two-week break from competitive action as preparations continue for Round 2 of the Senior Football Championship. Slashers will face Colmcille on Sunday, August 9th, at 6.00pm in Allen Park, with another important championship encounter in store.

The Junior A side also continue their preparations for their opening championship fixture against Clonguish on Monday, August 3rd, at 2.00pm in Michael Fay Park.
Two days later, on Wednesday, August 5th, our Junior C team will travel to take on Cashel, with throw-in at 8.00pm.

Hurling
Best of luck to our Senior Hurlers who turn their attention to Round 2 of the Senior Hurling Championship, where they face Wolfe Tones on Friday, July 31st, 8pm in Newtownforbes. Best of luck to the players and management.

Ladies Football
Division 1 League Round 5

Well done to our Senior Ladies and management team on their victory against Dromard last night.

A strong performance in both halves seen our team run out victorious. Best of luck to the ladies as they look forward to the league final in the upcoming weeks.

On Saturday, our ladies claimed their first piece of silverware of the year. It was also the first time in the club's history that they won the Gold Cup, recently renamed the Longford LGFA Players Tournament.
The final took place in Drumlish against Colmcille, and our ladies produced another superb display of football.

They were relentless from the first whistle and particularly impressive in the opening half, laying the foundation for a memorable victory.

Underage Football
Another busy week of underage football for the club!
Our Minor boys completed their league campaign on Monday evening, narrowly losing to Wolfe Tones Óg in a closely fought contest. Congratulations to the players and management for their commitment throughout the league, with attention now turning towards the upcoming championship.

On Tuesday evening, our Under 16 girls began their championship campaign against a strong Clonguish side. Fielding a very young team, the girls displayed tremendous heart, determination and resilience throughout, battling until the final whistle despite the result. Their attitude and commitment were a credit to themselves and the club.

Also on Tuesday, our Under 12 mixed team celebrated their first win of the season with a fantastic home victory over Grattans. Congratulations to all the boys and girls on an excellent team performance—hopefully the first of many this year.

Wednesday evening saw an excellent turnout as our Under 10 boys travelled to Clonguish for a blitz, allowing the club to field three teams. It was wonderful to see so many young players enjoying their football while displaying great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the evening.

Our Under 16 boys were also in championship action on Sunday evening, travelling to Kenagh to take on St Dominic's in Round 3. Missing several regular players, the lads battled hard but were ultimately defeated by a strong home side.

Well done to all our players, coaches, mentors, volunteers, parents and supporters for another fantastic week representing Longford Slashers.

All Ireland Champions - Congratulations Mayo
Congratulations to Mayo on capturing the 2026 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title. The county's long-awaited success was celebrated by many throughout the country, and everyone at Longford Slashers extends best wishes to the players, management and the travelling Mayo supporters on a memorable and well-deserved achievement.

Club Lotto
The weekly Club Lotto draw took place on Sunday evening at 8pm.

There was no jackpot winner this week. Congratulations to lucky dip winners Colm Farrell and Patricia Savage.
