Senior Men's Football Longford Slashers senior men travelled to Rathcline on Saturday evening for Round 2 of the Division 1 Relegation Play-Off. Following a positive start, Slashers controlled much of the opening half and went into the break with a healthy six-point advantage.
However, Rathcline emerged strongly after half-time and, aided by a number of crucial goals, turned the contest on its head before eventually running out comfortable winners.
The seniors now turn their attention to the final round of the relegation play-off, where they will host Abbeylara in Michael Fay Park this Saturday, June 27th, at 7pm. The club would encourage all supporters to come along and get behind the team.
Hurling A huge congratulations to the Longford Slashers U15 hurlers, who enjoyed fantastic success on the national stage over the weekend by capturing the Division 4 National Féile title.
Longford Slashers 2-4 Naomh Bríd (Carlow) 1-6
Displaying tremendous courage, determination and no shortage of skill, the Slashers side edged out the host club, Naomh Bríd of Carlow, in a thrilling final where just a single point separated the teams at the final whistle.
This is a tremendous achievement for the players, mentors and families involved and is a proud day for the entire club. Well done to all.
Underage Football
Best of luck to the Under 15 boys, who travel to Derry next Saturday to represent Longford in the Football Féile. Everyone at Longford Slashers wishes them every success. 💪🩵🤍
Our Under 10 girls enjoyed their first blitz of the season in Dromard on Saturday morning. A total of 20 girls took part, with great skill and enthusiasm on display throughout the morning.
Our Under 12 girls travelled to Drumlish on Monday evening for a league match against a strong Drumlish side. There was an excellent turnout, with 30 girls lining out for the club. It was fantastic to see such large numbers participating and representing the club so well.
Our Under 12 boys were recently joined by four players from the girls’ team, who have been a great addition to the squad. The team travelled to Newtowncashel on Friday evening and produced a strong performance. The boys and girls worked exceptionally well together and were unfortunate not to come away with the win. There were plenty of positives to take from the game, and the team can be very proud of their efforts.
Well done to our U14 boys who defeated Clonguish Óg in the first round of Championship on Tuesday evening on a scoreline of 7-6 to 3-8. The lads had travelled to Drumlish on the previous Wednesday evening to contest the Division 1 Shield Final. Despite a determined effort and a strong performance, they were unlucky on the night. Hard luck to the boys, who can be proud of their commitment and efforts throughout the campaign.
